  • Filing Fee Instructions
  • The Filing Fee was established expressly to assist those students who have Advanced to Candidacy and who have completed all requirements, including all courses and research associated with the thesis or dissertation, except for filing theses or dissertations and/or taking final examinations (master’s comprehensive or doctoral final examinations).

This means that the writing should essentially be done, and that your committee members have all but given final approval

You may not be enrolled in any courses while on filing fee. Completion of formal course work or residence requirements alone does not entitle you to apply for Filing Fee status. FILING FEE STATUS IS FOR ONE QUARTER ONLY (spring filing fee does extend through the end of summer)

Be sure to read all the information provided on the Graduate Studies website about Filing Fee.

DUE DATE: Please submit all paperwork to the department TWO WEEKS prior to the first day of instruction to insure submission to Graduate Studies by the final due date.

    1. Graduate Studies Filing Fee Application: Complete the application through the "Student Filing Fee Eligibility Checklist" section. Ask your Major Professor/Committee Chair to check the 3rd and 4th statements in the "Graduate Program Section" and to sign (unless MS Plan II).
    2. Engineering Filing Fee Form: MS Plan I and PhD students only.  Have all three committee members review your thesis/dissertation draft and sign off that they agree you are ready for filing fee.
    3. Email Lauren:
         (1) A draft of your project/thesis/dissertation (this is something we keep on file to show that you are ready for filing fee) and
         (2) A timeline showing how you will graduate by the filing fee deadline; including review time.  NOTE: Generally faculty have 4 weeks to review and provide feedback for each round of edits.
         (3) The receipt of payment for Filing Fee Application
